On 7th of September our team played against ACS(I) and we drew with a final score of 2-2. The team did well to recover from a two-goal deficit with Pradeep scoring a brace.
ACS(I) started the game brightly, with an early goal from their striker who latched on to a through pass and shot into the bottom left hand corner. It was a big blow to our team morale and we played in a lethargic manner, constantly losing possession and lacked the desire to get the ball back. ACS(I) then doubled their lead near the half hour mark, this time due to an individual error in our defense. The first half then ended with ACS(I) ahead by two goals.
At half time, Mr Ong gave us a good team talk and wanted the team to show more desire in their play. This definitely motivated our players and our play during the second half was much better.
Right from the start of the second half, the tide of the game turned in our favour and our play was evidently better as compared to the first half. Central midfielder Gerald did well to constantly win the first ball from goal kicks and our team was much more threatening. Yaohong was a constant threat down the right flank, and his shot which resulted from a good run down the flank forced a fine save out of the ACS(I) goalkeeper. Pradeep halved the deficit when he caught the keeper off his line and executed an immaculate lob over him into an empty net. Yaohong then made another devastating run down the flank and displayed excellent footwork to beat the defenders and cut the ball across the face of the goal, with Pradeep poking home the equalizer. Our team was threatening right down to the last minute of the game, due to a cohesive effort from the team.
Things to improve on:
1) Desire.
Play with the desire to win which means giving your best during the game and not doing things just for the sake of it.
2) Possession
Making sure you are protecting the ball and not giving it away cheaply.
3) Schoolboy errors
No foul throws, making sure that the player you are substituting is off the field before you run in and when injured do not simply walk off but get your teammates attention to get the ball out so as to make a substitution.
